2016 is a very special year for the European Handball Federation.
25 years ago, on 17 November 1991 to be precise, at the first EHF Congress in Berlin, a European handball federation was formed for the first time.
The EHF and indeed handball have come a long way in the past quarter of a century and to celebrate this important milestone, the EHF has launched a special website to bring you all of the latest information around this important event.
The official celebrations will take place in St. Wolfgang, Austria on 17/18 November 2016 with a Gala Evening bringing together many well-known faces from the world of handball.
Of course parallel to the celebrations, the EHF Congress will also take place. Important decisions will be made about the future of the federation and elections will be held for the next four-year period.
The EHF Media team will be reporting live from St. Wolfgang and you will be able to follow all the latest news as it happens via this website.
We also want you to join us in celebrating this anniversary and to play your own part in a special project to create an online history of the EHF.
It could be that you have a funny or even sad story to tell us, a personal memory of a particular match or a milestone in the federation’s history. Perhaps you would like to mark the achievements of somebody who has contributed a great deal to handball in Europe over the years.
You can share your memories with us via this website and upload text, photographs and videos. Your stories will then be shared in a timeline from 1991 through to present day.
Those sharp-eyed observers among you will have noticed that there is also a new look to this website – a small taste of what is to come in the not too distant future – with a new online platform for the EHF currently being developed in this design.
You see, the 25th anniversary may be a time to look back and reminisce, but it is also an opportunity to look ahead to the bright future awaiting both handball and the EHF.
We are very much looking forward to celebrating 25 years of the EHF with you!
Yours in sport,
Jean Brihault
EHF President
